"Rue de la colère, colères de la rue" (Street of anger, street anger)
Group exhibition at Le Zèbre
Dalila Boukacem, Anne Thomé (alias Enna Pator) and Ludovic Viévard
The street is doubly a public space. Firstly, it is a place of communality, free circulation and sharing. Secondly, it is a place for the expression and confrontation of ideas, in line with philosopher Jürgen Habermas' definition of public space. The street is thus both a physical and informational public space.
In January 2023, the first of a long series of demonstrations in France was against pension reform. For several months, the streets were the scene of determined opposition to the government's plan, and of sometimes violent confrontations.
Beyond this social movement - and (at times) in resonance with it - the street was occupied throughout 2023. Protests against the use of the 49.3, demonstrations for women's rights, "urban riots" in June following the death of young Nahel, rallies against police violence, support for the right of peoples to live in peace, the fight against extremism... The street was the place for the expression of many convictions, taking diverse forms, at once brutal, peaceful or festive.
For a year, L'Œil du Zèbre, Le Zèbre's photo section, followed these urban expressions. For this exhibition, "Rue de la colère, colères de la rue", Dalila Boukacem, Anne Thomé and Ludovic Viévard share their photos of those moments when the street caught fire.
